Bob Wandell brings more than 40 years of experience in the cyber security area. He focuses on using security principles as an enabler rather than a blocker. Early on Bob realized that security must be tightly integrated with operational system to be effective. While an electrical engineer by training, he developed strong systems engineering skills to facilitate the necessary discussions and negotiations to implement the integration using a variety of frameworks. The systems he supported achieved capabilities to do more operationally, with much less risk, than would have otherwise been possible. Bob was an early proponent of risk managed approaches to
information systems. His early work involved integrating security controls in ways to optimize mission performance. Through this work he helped define the basis of many of the risk management frameworks, such as the NIST RMF, in use today. With his knowledge and background coupled with the ability to explain issues to nontechnical individuals, he is often called upon to present security test and analysis results to high levels of leadership, both private and Government. Over the course of Bob’s career, he performed design, implementation, operations, and assessment functions in technical, management, and consulting roles. Bob’s experience includes commercial cybersecurity applications, Department of Defense multilevel cybersecurity, and Nuclear Command and Control systems. His experience spans domestic, international, and multinational applications. His positions, both offensive and defensive in nature, enabled him to experience security controls firsthand, gaining an understanding of what works and has value. The variety of missions and systems that Bob supported over the years enable him to quickly understand what is important and where to focus security funding. Bob’s background and experience enabled him to achieve credentials as a CCP, CCA, and instructor. Bob holds a BS in Electrical Engineering from the Pennsylvania State University and a MS in Administration from Central Michigan University. He holds CISSP and Scrum Master certifications as well.
