In the current business world companies are starting to make more effective use of data. Companies are investing heavily in analytics to drive their business, convinced that data and data-driven insights are the key to future success. Many companies look to Google and Amazon as examples of effective data driven companies. Yet despite the enthusiasm, budgets, and resources directed to analytics, most projects are not able to scale, with many failing to meet expectations.
According to Gartner research, only 20% of analytics insights will deliver business outcomes through 2022. Because most companies are not following a set of established best practices, operating instead from a mostly haphazard and unproven playbook.
This is where CMMI High Maturity shines! In high maturity organizations the measurement system is based on consistently following a defined set of processes that is quantitatively managed and the organization understands the linkage between process performance and business outcomes. CMMI Maturity Levels 4 and 5 are high maturity levels. There is a clear difference between high maturity organizations, which demonstrate quantitative management and optimizing behaviors, and lower maturity organizations, which manage by just following defined processes. Higher maturity organizations demonstrate lower variability in processes and often use leading indicators as part of a statistically defensible management method. As a result, higher maturity organizations tend to be both more predictable and faster at responding to market changes.
